The much-anticipated inaugural service took place on Sunday, 19 January 2025, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, following a public invitation the day before.
In his message, Pastor Iluyomade invited attendees to a “special time in the Lord’s presence”, promising an enriching experience.
The event was marked by lively singing, dancing, and heartfelt worship, which attracted numerous family members, friends, and loyal followers from his previous ministry at RCCG.
The service, which celebrated the rebirth of the congregation, featured a sermon by Iluyomade urging the attendees to rededicate their lives to God.
He described this moment as a “second birthday” for many, encouraging them to embrace their spiritual transformation.
The event’s vibrant atmosphere highlighted Pastor Iluyomade’s signature celebratory style, and his wife, Dr. Siju Iluyomade, was also present, joining in the joyous occasion.
Iluyomade’s decision to launch his own church comes after a turbulent period that followed his resignation from RCCG.
This came after he was suspended by the church’s leadership, following controversy surrounding his wife’s lavish 60th birthday party.
The event occurred shortly after the tragic helicopter crash in California that claimed the lives of RCCG financier Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son.
Public reaction to the Iluyomades’ resignation has been divided. While some loyal RCCG members have voiced strong support for their former pastor, others have criticised the couple’s extravagant lifestyle, which some perceive as a contributing factor to their challenges.
Amidst these tensions, speculation grew that Iluyomade might establish his own ministry, a move that would allow him to continue his religious work without the constraints imposed by RCCG’s hierarchy.
Pastor Iluyomade had hinted at such a shift through cryptic social media posts at the start of 2025, promising his followers, “I will lead you! The Year of the Lord’s Presence.”
Following the launch of ‘The Family Fellowship’, he posted another reflective message: “In the darkest seasons of life, hold on to your vision and look up to God… Your future is bright.”
