During a church service, Pastor Jerry Eze stood beside the woman, holding her shoulder while recounting the sacrifices she made for him during his formative years.
The emotional moment, captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media, showed the clergyman fighting back tears as he explained that the woman and her family supported him from secondary school through university.
According to the preacher, there was a time when his biological mother could no longer afford to pay for his education and advised him to learn a trade such as tailoring or mechanics.
Pastor Jerry Eze said he initially considered becoming a tailor before his life took a dramatic turn during a church service.
He recalled that while reading the Bible, Professor Ursula Akanwa approached him and said she believed God had instructed her to help send him back to school.
The cleric said the professor and her husband later spoke with his mother, who prayed about the situation before releasing him to live with the family.
Pastor Jerry Eze explained that he lived with Professor Akanwa from Junior Secondary School 3 until after completing his university education, adding that he lacked nothing throughout the period.
He credited the family with shaping much of his personal and academic development, including helping him improve his command of English.
At the service, the clergyman embraced the woman as she knelt in appreciation after his heartfelt tribute, drawing emotional reactions from congregants.
