Speaking to journalists at his Agulu residence in Anaocha Local Government Area on Wednesday, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections appealed to voters to come out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights peacefully.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, emphasised that the election must reflect the people’s will rather than political manipulation.
“My interest in this Anambra 2025 governorship election is a peaceful process before, during, and after the exercise,” he said.
“This election is for Ndi-Anambra, and anyone who wins, wins for the development of the state.”
The Labour Party leader described all the major contenders—including incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his own party’s candidate, Chief George Moughalu—as his friends.
“But I will vote for the candidate of my party,” Obi added. “I urge every other voter-card-carrying resident in Anambra State to go out and vote for the candidate of their choice.”
He further appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to act professionally and ensure neutrality throughout the process.
Meanwhile, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, confirmed the commission’s full readiness for the election, announcing that 24,000 ad hoc staff and 540 accredited journalists would participate across 5,718 polling units.
Amupitan reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections, adding that a mock accreditation had already been conducted successfully in the three senatorial districts.
With 16 candidates vying for the top seat, Anambra voters are expected to decide whether to renew Governor Soludo’s mandate or usher in new leadership under a different political banner.
