Peter Okoye alleges Jude threatened to kill him, wife

Nigerian singer and former P-Square member Peter Okoye has made fresh and serious allegations against his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, claiming that Jude repeatedly threatened to kill him and his wife during their years of working together.

Peter made the claims in a video posted on his official Instagram account, further escalating the family’s long-running public dispute.

In the Instagram video, Peter recounted a series of incidents that he said contributed to the breakdown of both their family relationship and business partnership, alleging that the threats dated back several years.

The latest allegations come as tensions within the famous Okoye family continue to play out publicly, years after the celebrated music group P-Square split and reunited before relations deteriorated again over financial management and ownership of the family’s entertainment businesses.

According to Peter, one of the incidents occurred in the United States during discussions involving property documents.

Peter claimed that a lawyer advised him not to sign the documents after allegedly learning of previous threats made against him.

“Apparently, the lawyer must have told him, ‘Peter has so many pieces of evidence of you threatening to shoot him or kill him.’ They gave me the property document in Atlanta, and I turned back,” Peter said.

Peter also referred to a termination letter dated September 2017, saying the document recorded earlier instances in which Jude allegedly threatened his life.

“I wrote it that Jude had threatened me several times. I remember the last one. Jude threatened that he was going to kill me and he was going to kill my wife,” Peter said.

Peter further alleged that the matter was reported to a state governor, who facilitated a meeting between those involved.

According to Peter, less than 48 hours after the meeting, Jude posted photographs of firearms on social media with a caption that Peter interpreted as another threat directed at him.

Peter questioned why his twin brother and fellow P-Square member, Paul Okoye, did not intervene despite allegedly witnessing some of the exchanges.

“When Jude was doing all these threats and Paul was there, what was Paul doing? My own twin brother,” Peter said.

The singer also linked the alleged threats to the ownership dispute surrounding Northside Entertainment, the company that managed the group’s affairs during its peak.

Peter claimed there were attempts to remove him as a shareholder and alleged that after he refused to sign certain documents, a separate company, Northside Music, was established with Paul’s wife becoming a shareholder.

“I’m not stupid,” Peter added.

The latest allegations add another chapter to one of Nigeria’s most closely watched family disputes in the entertainment industry.

P-Square, made up of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, dominated the African music scene throughout the 2000s and early 2010s with chart-topping hits and sold-out international performances.

However, disagreements over management, finances and creative direction led to their first breakup in 2017.

Although the brothers announced a reconciliation in 2021 and briefly resumed performing together, tensions resurfaced in recent years following renewed disagreements involving Jude Okoye, who managed the group’s business interests for many years.

At the time of publication, Jude Okoye and Paul Okoye had not publicly responded to Peter’s latest allegations. No court has determined the claims made in Peter’s video, and the allegations remain contested.

The renewed dispute has attracted widespread public attention, reflecting the enduring interest in one of Nigeria’s most influential music families and raising fresh questions about trust, family relationships and business governance within the entertainment industry.
