The former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the ruling democratic party, All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has appealed to Edo State electorates to reject the incumbent governor’s bid for re-election.

The governor, Godwin Obaseki, of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyam of the APC, are the main contenders in the forth-coming election.

Tinubu allegedly made this call in a short video circulating on social media platforms, where he claimed he suffered for what Obaseki is now enjoying as a democrat.

“I, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, want to appeal as a committed democrat and a leader of all democrats, regardless of political party, to conscience and commitment to democracy today on the forthcoming election in Edo State.

“I want to appeal to you to reject Godwin Obaseki in this coming election,” he said.

Recall that the governor and his deputy resigned their membership of APC on June 16, 2020 when the party’s screening panel disqualified the former from participating in the primary election and moved to the PDP.

“I have suffered with many others to bring about this democratic regime that today we’re enjoying in the country. Then Governor Obaseki didn’t participate in any aspect of the struggle. Therefore, he could not understand the value and the pains that were associated with this democracy,” he explained.

Tinubu, who is rumoured to be nursing a political ambition of becoming a Nigerian president in 2023, urged the people of Edo State to reject is second coming as he had already deceived the electorates once. He accused Obaseki as a tyrant, who once prevented rule of law to prevail in the land.
