Wike says Tinubu’s mediation is nearing a Rivers crisis resolution as talks continue between Fubara and the state assembly

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday said President Bola Tinubu’s intervention has brought the prolonged political dispute in Rivers State close to a Rivers crisis resolution.

Nyesom Wike spoke to reporters in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT and commended President Bola Tinubu for stepping in to mediate between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.

Nyesom Wike said the president’s involvement was central to ending the conflict and restoring political stability in the state.

“I believe that by the grace of God, this will be the last time the president will have to get involved in this issue, and the people of Rivers State will no longer have to hear about this kind of disagreement,” Nyesom Wike said.

Nyesom Wike urged the parties involved to heed the president’s guidance.

“The president is like the father of the nation, and when a father speaks, his children must listen and act to ensure peace and progress,” Nyesom Wike added.

Nyesom Wike expressed confidence that both the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara would take steps necessary to sustain the peace process.

“The House of Assembly will do what is required, and I am confident that the governor will also take the necessary actions to make this peace last,” Nyesom Wike said.

The Rivers State House of Assembly, regarded as loyal to Nyesom Wike, had recently initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the political standoff.

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu invited Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the Presidential Villa for talks aimed at resolving the crisis and charting a political solution.

Nyesom Wike thanked President Bola Tinubu for his role in bringing the parties together and said stability in Rivers State had now become the overriding priority.
