Wayne Rooney issues a stark warning in the Mohamed Salah legacy row, urging Liverpool to drop the forward after his public criticism

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney said in London on Monday that the Mohamed Salah legacy row at Liverpool has reached a critical point, warning that the Egyptian forward is damaging his long-established reputation at the club.

Wayne Rooney was responding to comments Salah made over the weekend, claiming Liverpool had “thrown him under the bus” and that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had deteriorated.

According to BBC Sport, Wayne Rooney said Arne Slot must assert his authority by excluding Mohamed Salah from Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan and from Saturday’s Premier League fixture at home to Brighton.

Wayne Rooney insisted that Salah’s remarks were unacceptable and required an immediate managerial response.

In his latest podcast, Wayne Rooney said Salah should focus on joining Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations to allow tensions at Liverpool to settle.

He argued that Salah should not be part of the matchday squad while the issue remains unresolved.

Wayne Rooney added that Mohamed Salah must either repair his relationship with Arne Slot or consider leaving Liverpool altogether.

He said the situation could not be allowed to drag on and needed swift resolution.

The former England captain questioned Salah’s decision to voice his frustrations publicly, particularly given the forward’s successful spell at Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017.

Wayne Rooney said the outburst risked undoing years of goodwill with supporters.

“He is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool,” Wayne Rooney said, calling it sad to see a player of Salah’s stature jeopardise everything he had built at the club.

He added that the Egyptian had handled the situation poorly.

Salah had earlier expressed frustration over his limited playing time, claiming someone within the club wanted him to take the blame for recent setbacks.
