Rotary Districts 9111 and 9112 in Nigeria have called on their affiliated clubs to nominate amputees in need of prosthetic limbs for a free fitting and distribution programme under the West Africa Project Fair (WAPF) Lagos 2026 initiative.

The humanitarian project, organised by the West Africa Project Fair Host Organising Committee, aims to restore mobility, dignity and independence to people living with disabilities by providing artificial limbs at no cost to selected beneficiaries.

The call was contained in a letter dated October 26, 2026, signed by the heads of the organising committee for the two Rotary districts, PAG Omotunde Lawson of District 9111 and PDG Femi Adenekan of District 9112.

Addressed to club presidents across both districts, the letter urged Rotary clubs to identify eligible individuals in their host communities who require prosthetic limbs and submit their nominations before the deadline.

According to the committee, beneficiaries must be amputees requiring an artificial limb from the elbow to the hand. They must also be medically fit and willing to use the prosthesis.

Each Rotary club is expected to nominate at least two beneficiaries from its host community, in a move intended to extend the programme’s impact across different communities.

The organising committee outlined the information required for each nominee, including full name, age, sex, contact telephone number, residential address, type of amputation or limb required, and the cause of the amputation.

Applicants must also provide a photograph of the affected body part, alongside the name of the sponsoring Rotary club and its designated contact person.

The committee directed clubs to forward their nominations and supporting details to PAG Sola Benson via WhatsApp on 08024603519 on or before Monday, November 2, 2026.

Describing the initiative as an opportunity to improve lives, the organisers said the programme was designed to help beneficiaries regain mobility and return to their daily activities.

“This is an opportunity to put a smile on someone’s face and give them a second chance to walk, work and live again,” the letter stated.

The committee also appealed to Rotary club presidents to cooperate in ensuring the success of the humanitarian initiative, which aligns with the organisation’s broader commitment to service and community development.

The letter was signed by PAG Omotunde Lawson, chair of the Host Organising Committee for District 9111, and PDG Femi Adenekan, chair of the committee for District 9112.

The initiative reflects Rotary’s emphasis on humanitarian service, particularly efforts aimed at improving access to support for people living with disabilities.

Through the provision of artificial limbs, the programme seeks to help eligible amputees improve their mobility, independence and quality of life.
