SDP Femi Olaniyi unveils Rtn. Amb. Aderiyike Olu-Kayode as running mate for the Lagos governorship election.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Lagos State governorship candidate, Hon. Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as “Ferrari”, has unveiled Rotarian Ambassador Aderiyike Olu-Kayode as his running mate, presenting a ticket that combines engineering expertise, business leadership and humanitarian service ahead of the next Lagos governorship election.

The announcement positions the pair as the party’s standard-bearers in a state where political competition has historically been dominated by larger parties.

By pairing an experienced entrepreneur and political strategist with a respected humanitarian and community development advocate, the SDP is seeking to broaden its appeal among professionals, young voters and grassroots communities.

The SDP Femi Olaniyi ticket brings together two personalities with distinct backgrounds in business, public service and civic engagement.

A trained Chemical Engineer, Olaniyi built his professional career in manufacturing before expanding into logistics, hospitality, construction and project consultancy.

As Chief Executive Officer of African Multi Concept Logistics Limited, he has developed a reputation for applying technical thinking and strategic planning to business development.

His transition into politics has followed a similar path. In 2019, Olaniyi contested for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency before later emerging as Chairman of the Lagos State Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

During his tenure, political observers credited him with encouraging dialogue among political parties and promoting issue-based engagement despite ideological differences.

Speaking on his vision, Olaniyi said his experience in engineering and enterprise has shaped his approach to governance.

“When people are faced with complex challenges, they need practical solutions. My commitment is to bring that same problem-solving mindset into public service and build systems that work for the people of Lagos.”

His running mate, Rtn. Amb. Aderiyike Olu-Kayode, adds a strong humanitarian and community service profile to the ticket.

An administrator, entrepreneur, peace ambassador and child welfare advocate, Olu-Kayode is widely recognised for founding the Olukayode Ariike Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that supports widows, vulnerable children, persons living with disabilities and underserved communities through empowerment and humanitarian interventions.

Her work has earned recognition within both civic and humanitarian circles for promoting inclusion, dignity and opportunities for disadvantaged groups.

Beyond humanitarian service, Olu-Kayode has established herself within Rotary International as the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Ikeja Township, where she has championed projects centred on education, community development and social welfare. Her Rotary leadership reflects a longstanding commitment to Service Above Self and collaborative community impact.

Accepting the nomination, Olu-Kayode said leadership should ultimately be measured by its impact on people’s lives.

“Leadership is not measured by the position we occupy, but by the lives we touch and the impact we leave behind. I remain committed to serving humanity, protecting the vulnerable and working towards a Lagos where opportunities are accessible to everyone.”

Political analysts note that the selection of a female running mate with an extensive record in humanitarian work reflects a broader trend among political parties seeking candidates with demonstrable community engagement beyond conventional politics.

The emergence of the SDP Femi Olaniyi governorship ticket also comes at a time when voters are increasingly demanding competence, accountability and practical governance solutions alongside political experience.

While the party faces the challenge of competing against more established political structures in Lagos, the combination of private sector leadership and grassroots humanitarian service presents a distinctive narrative as campaigns gather momentum.

For Olaniyi and Olu-Kayode, the immediate task will be translating their professional and community service records into a compelling political message capable of resonating with one of Africa’s largest and most politically sophisticated electorates.
