The popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, is no place for lily-livered, especially when Nigerians unite in one voice to deal with a perceived common enemy.

This time around, it was the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation taking the heat over a recent report on fraud totaling over $6 million in losses.

Untitled 1 36Recall Freelanews recently reports that agency declared 6 Nigerians wanted for fraud.

Help the #FBI find six Nigerian nationals wanted for their involvement in business email compromise (BEC) schemes resulting in over $6 million in losses. Read more about each defendant at https://t.co/Q1OToaIVsl, and submit tips at https://t.co/iL7sD5efWD. #FugitiveFriday pic.twitter.com/67TZPHLgHA

A critical analysis of the FBI’s report revealed that the 79 scammers of different nationalities were actually being wanted, but just 6 Nigerians were used as poster. (See full list here)

Nigerians’ annoyance was also compounded by the fact that the country has the lowest number of scammers in the mix. While only 6 Nigerians are declared wanted, Russia has 16, China with 20 and 37 are Arabic.

Among many Nigerians who showed their grievances at the tweet was the popular political commentator and social media expert, Japheth Omojuwa, who wrote:

I counted 79 wanted criminals, almost 20 are Russian, about the same number are of Chinese origin (including syndicates), a sizeable number are Arabian etc. The minority black/Nigerian 6 of 79 instead made the headline. Is there a Nigerian agenda going on with the US government?

With 6 Nigerians trending on Twitter, here are some of the other reactions.

Hushpuppi, Mompha and Invictus Obi are just fraudsters with too much noise on the internet but they’re still a learner compared to Russia, Lebanon, China, India and Colombia guys. Infact. Dubia is the center of fruad city. But you will only read headlines about only 6 Nigerians

— IFA FUNSHO (@funshographix) June 27, 2020

Why isnt this trending?
If you are a Nigerian rt this. let the world know that we are great and wonderful people not scammers.

6 Nigerians YeN yEn yEN…

We agree there are bad eggs among us. However, we have plenty good and hardworking folks in & outside Nigeria too.

Then my guy decided to give FBI tips on 6 Nigerians, see how it went…
Ezemuo has already been mobilised.

This list has:
39 men of Arab origin
16 Russians,
20 Chinese/Southeast Asian guys
6 Nigerians.

And you choose to use 6 Nigerians as the headline
Y’all are fucking racist

— EFON ALAAYE OF KADUNA (@hizeekyoung) June 27, 2020

WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT ‘6 NIGERIANS’, ALSO TALK ABOUT THESE NIGERIANS…

GO TO FBI WEBSITE AND SEE NIGERIA HAS LESS CRIMINALS#FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST #FBIisRACIST pic.twitter.com/gsxd6hKcez

Say no to #rascism
Check it out and you will see 79 of criminals which are 16 Russians, 20 Chinese ,6 NIGERIANS and 37 arabic men.

So @FBI why are you making Nigeria the subject of criticism? Is it because of 6 bad eggs? 🤦‍♀ https://t.co/F72UaxzN75

— Timo baba (@babalolatimot17) June 27, 2020

These Nigerians attacking FBI are fraud apologists/very ignorant. FBI has lots of people they designate wanted in their cyber lists and just some few weeks ago they designated 6 Nigerians. If you can’t help them find these men, just shut up! It’s not about you fgs. pic.twitter.com/iMYpFe809L

— Uwa Bunkoye, NBA.➐ (@realuweez) June 27, 2020

"There are 35 Arabs, many Russians and Chinese on the list, why are they posting the 6 Nigerians ?"

China, UAE & Russia have functioning database, documents, organized system where these criminals can be traced & accessed. Nigeria does not have any. No database. Nothing pic.twitter.com/1B6ugEn6sZ

— Remilekun (@Ceorhemz) June 27, 2020

Who can remove all the 6 nigerians pictures and put Donald Trump with other bad govt pictures in it #fbi pic.twitter.com/cJyrW5MUPp

— Princess of Anambra😍💞 (@mia_ann__) June 27, 2020

Dear @FBI ,
The 6 Nigerians that you decided to use as your headline is not acceptable, where are the Chinese, Russian and others that have a total more than 100, why use Nigeria as your headline. #changeit #NigerianandLegit https://t.co/a7uFVC5ZMB

— Engr Abubakar Muhammed MNSE MNICE (@engrelmoh) June 27, 2020

Crime is crime no matter who commits it and evil doesn’t have a nationality! How smart could those 6 Nigerians be that the @FBI needs world help to find them despite FBI’s access to classified files.Unless of course to mention their country to the hearing of the world.

Do you also think the FBI went too far? Let’s have your opinion in the comment box below.
