After a joint vision was announced by MultiChoice, Comcast’s NBCUniversal, and Sky for streaming in Africa, the revamped Showmax has been unveiled, showcasing a refreshed brand and an extensive content lineup on a robust new streaming platform.

This collaboration has led to the introduction of the world’s first standalone Premier League plan for mobile, making all 380 games available live on Showmax Premier League for just N2,900 a month.

The new Showmax app is set to be available in app stores from January 23, 2024, in a phased migration process across 44 markets. The streaming service introduces three plans for customers: Showmax Entertainment on mobile for N1,200 a month, Showmax Entertainment plan at N2,500 per month, and the game-changing Showmax Premier League for football enthusiasts.

Opeoluwa Filani, GM of Showmax Nigeria, emphasized the significance of Showmax Premier League, targeting the vast number of smartphone users and football lovers across Africa. The initiative aims to make football accessible on mobile devices at an affordable price.

Richard Masters, CEO of the Premier League, expressed delight with the Showmax initiative, recognizing its potential to expand access to the Premier League in Africa.

Showmax’s success in Africa is underpinned by a new technical platform built to scale, enhancing streaming capabilities. Leveraging the Peacock streaming platform, active in more than 70 countries, Showmax offers a world-class streaming experience.

The platform, backed by Comcast’s NBCUniversal, has been recognized with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for sports viewing experiences across various events.

The streaming service is set to feature 21 new Showmax Originals in February, including five Nigerian Originals, contributing to a 150% increase in production output compared to the previous year. MultiChoice’s partnership with Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky ensures a steady supply of popular international titles, strengthening Showmax’s content lineup.

John Ugbe, CEO of West Africa at MultiChoice, emphasized Showmax’s commitment to prioritizing the African market and understanding the continent like no other. Showmax focuses on accessibility with competitive pricing, a growing payment network facilitated by Moment, and the option for DStv customers to add Showmax to their bill with discounts.

The migration to the new Showmax platform is set to be completed in February 2024, marking a significant leap in streaming offerings for the African audience. Existing Showmax customers will receive communication on accessing the new app, ensuring a seamless transition to the enhanced streaming experience.
