Fondly called “Sommie” by colleagues and viewers, Somtochukwu Maduagwu was more than just a broadcaster.

She was also a trained lawyer who brought a rare blend of professionalism, passion, and poise to her journalism.

The Nigerian Police confirmed that an urgent investigation has been launched to track down those responsible.

In a moving statement, ARISE News described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family” and “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers.”

The organisation expressed profound grief, calling for the swift prosecution of the perpetrators.

Colleagues have remembered Somtochukwu Maduagwu as a supportive team player whose energy and warmth inspired others.

“Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory,” the management said.

Born on 26 December 1995, she quickly rose to become a familiar and trusted face on Nigerian television.

Her untimely death has left an irreplaceable gap, not only at ARISE News but also in the wider broadcasting community.

The management and staff of ARISE News extended condolences to her parents, siblings, and loved ones, while emphasising the importance of justice.

Her passing is not only a personal tragedy but also a stark reminder of the country’s deepening insecurity.
