Superboy Cheque reveals painful Acne struggle

Superboy Cheque acne struggle nearly pushed him to quit music, the rapper reveals in a candid interview about self-esteem and fame

Nigerian rapper and singer Superboy Cheque, born Akinbi Bamidele Brett, has disclosed that a severe acne battle almost forced him to abandon his music career at the height of his early breakthrough.

Speaking during an interview with Yanga FM, the 29-year-old artist described the emotional and physical toll the condition took on his confidence.

Superboy Cheque said desperation to treat the acne led him to purchase a cosmetic product that nearly caused permanent facial damage.

“I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible. My desperation to cure it led me to buy a makeup that almost disfigured my face,” he said.

The rapper explained that the turning point came after the success of his breakout single Zoom and his subsequent record deal, when he realised increased media appearances would place him constantly in front of cameras.

As someone who considers himself a perfectionist, Superboy Cheque said he sought a quick cosmetic fix from a store, only to wake up one morning to find his face badly affected.

The experience, he noted, deeply impacted his self-esteem and social life.

The artist said he became withdrawn and uncomfortable in public spaces, admitting he struggled to approach women and felt embarrassed about his appearance.

Despite the setback, Superboy Cheque has since rebuilt his confidence and continued to grow his music career.
