The incident occurred near the University of Lagos waterfront, heading towards the island, affecting motorists exiting the Tollgate towards Iyana-Oworo.
The collision, which reportedly happened overnight, continued to impact commuters well into the morning.
LASTMA noted that key routes including Alapere inward Lagos Island, the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway inward Lagos Island, and parts of Ikorodu Road experienced slow traffic, as motorists sought alternative routes to avoid the bridge.
“Traffic is moving slowly exiting the Tollgate towards Iyana-Oworo due to an accident on the Third Mainland Bridge near the Unilag waterfront,” LASTMA stated. “A tanker and a truck collided overnight, causing significant disruptions. Our personnel and the Nigerian Police Force are on-site, actively monitoring traffic and ensuring safety. Cones have been placed behind the vehicles to prevent further accidents.”
Authorities are working to evacuate the affected vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.
