Tinubu APC primary Lagos as president and wife vote in Ikoyi ward exercise ahead of APC nomination process for 2027 elections

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Saturday participated in the ward-level presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress in Ward E, Ikoyi, Lagos State, as the ruling party commenced its nationwide nomination process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The exercise, part of the APC’s May 2026 ward congress activities, saw Bola Tinubu arriving at the venue in a motorcade alongside Oluremi Tinubu, where they were received by a large crowd of party supporters, security personnel and journalists.

The Tinubu APC primary Lagos event drew significant attention as video footage showed the President moving through dense crowds of party faithful dressed in traditional attire at the Ikoyi ward venue.

The exercise forms part of the ruling party’s internal democratic process aimed at selecting its flagbearer for the next general election cycle.

After casting his vote, Bola Tinubu described the process as a demonstration of internal democracy and expressed satisfaction with its conduct across the country.

“Demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going very well according to plan,” he said.

He emphasised grassroots participation in party politics, noting that members were actively involved at all levels of the exercise.

Bola Tinubu also commended APC governors for overseeing the electoral process in their respective states, praising the organisation of congresses from the ward level through to higher party structures.

According to him, the party had maintained orderliness and transparency throughout its internal elections, describing the process as evidence of democratic consolidation within the APC.

The President’s remarks come as the party intensifies preparations for its national nomination process, with political observers closely monitoring early alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Tinubu APC primary Lagos appearance is expected to further reinforce his influence within the party’s grassroots structure as internal contests continue nationwide.
