The team, led by coach Madugu, recovered from two goals down to defeat Morocco 3–2 in the final, claiming a record-extending 10th continental title.
Kanu, 28, had been recovering from a six-month injury leading up to the tournament but felt she had done enough to secure a place in the squad.
“I haven’t heard any feedback, especially from the coach… a few days to the travel date, I got a text message saying I was no longer part of the team,” Kanu told Nigeria Info.
Since returning from injury in March, Kanu has played seven games for Racing Louisville in the NWSL, scoring once.
Despite being out of contract, she is hopeful of returning to the Super Falcons for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
“My teammates did well and I supported them the entire time. I have reached out to congratulate them and the coach. Hopefully I’ll be back on the team,” she added.

Kanu also recently launched her memoir, Football, My Escape, in Lagos, reflecting on her journey through U-17, U-20, and senior national levels, where she has scored seven goals in 27 appearances for Nigeria.
