In a statement shared on its official X account on Wednesday, the Mission stressed that this practice, known as birth tourism, violates US visa regulations.
The post emphasized that using a visa with the primary intention of obtaining US citizenship for a child through childbirth is not permitted.
“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted,” the statement read.
The Mission added that consular officers are instructed to deny any visa application if they suspect such intent.
This stern notice serves to spare applicants the emotional disappointment and financial loss tied to potential denial.
