In a security alert posted on its official website on Monday, the Embassy urged US citizens to exercise heightened caution and remain vigilant, especially when visiting US diplomatic missions and schools associated with American organisations.
The notice advised: “The US Embassy in Abuja informs US citizens of a possible terrorist threat against US facilities and US-affiliated schools in Nigeria. The Embassy recommends that US citizens take additional precautions when travelling to the US Embassy, the US Consulate General in Lagos, and US-affiliated schools, to include varying times and routes.”
While no specific group claimed responsibility, the warning underscores the importance of security awareness for Americans living or travelling in Nigeria.
The Embassy’s alert comes amid broader concerns over regional security in Nigeria, where diplomatic missions and international institutions have periodically been targeted in past attacks.
