Victor Osimhen joins Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker, has joined Turkish side Galatasaray on a four-month loan from Napoli. He becomes the sixth Nigerian to play for the club, following a much-talked-about transfer saga.

[dropcap]V[/dropcap]ictor Osimhen has officially joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a four-month loan deal from Napoli, ending a long and highly publicised transfer saga.

The 25-year-old Super Eagles striker, who previously showcased his talents in Italy, helping Napoli secure their first Serie A title in over 30 years, has now become the sixth Nigerian to don the iconic Cimbom jersey.

Osimhen’s move was one of the most discussed transfers during the summer window, especially after he expressed a desire to leave Napoli despite signing a new contract in December 2023.

Over the last three seasons, he has cemented his reputation as one of Europe’s top strikers, attracting interest from major clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Liverpool.

Although Chelsea was his preferred destination, Osimhen ultimately opted for Galatasaray, arriving in Turkey to a hero’s welcome from thousands of eager fans.

Osimhen’s presence in Galatasaray adds to the legacy of Nigerian players at the club. He follows in the footsteps of former Super Eagles stars like Dominic Iorfa, who was the first Nigerian to play for Galatasaray in 1992, and Henry Onyekuru, who made a significant impact with 22 goals and 12 assists during his time with the Turkish side.

As Osimhen prepares to make his debut for Galatasaray after the international break on September 15th against Rizespor, fans are excited to see him replicate the form that made him a star in Italy.
