The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, as too stingy to be president of Nigeria.
Wike made the remarks on Saturday during a town hall interactive meeting with stakeholders in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The minister mocked the former Anambra State governor’s well-known habit of carrying his own bags, saying a former governor should not be unable to employ a personal assistant for that purpose.
“As a former governor, you cannot be stingy not to have employed a personal assistant who will carry your bag.
You want to show you carry your bag. We don’t want such a stingy person as a president,” Wike said.
He also dismissed Obi as a “social media president,” arguing that online popularity does not equate to the capacity required to govern Nigeria.
“Truly speaking, I gave him president of social media. If you were to vote who will be president of social media, I will vote for him. But if it is to govern Nigeria, it is capital no!” he added.
Wike further questioned Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, urging the public to compare his performance with that of the incumbent, Chukwuma Soludo.
The minister also criticised politicians who leave their parties during internal crises, contrasting this with his own decision to remain and confront challenges within the Peoples Democratic Party.
