The interim president of the top Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, has come under fire from the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, for rejecting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the next president.
According to him, Adebanjo is not acknowledged by Yoruba monarchs as the real head of Afenifere; only Pa Reuben Fasoranti is. The monarch made this claim on Saturday during an appearance on Southwest Political Circuit, a program on Fresh 105.9FM in Ibadan.
Adebanjo recently asserted that Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) rather than Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress ((APC)), who was recognized as the victor by the Independent National Election Commission, won the poll (INEC).
Jare Ajayi, a spokesperson for Adebanjo’s Afenifere, was also placed under suspension after making a statement recognizing Tinubu as the president-elect.
Yet Oba Alao claimed that Nigerians elected the president-elect because they wanted justice, equity, and unity. Everyone who supported Tinubu wanted the nation to be unified, he said. The presidential election stands for that. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s win stands for harmony, equity, and justice.
