A 11-year-old boy was shot and killed by an apparent stray bullet at a Cleveland birthday party, a report said Tuesday.

The boy, Tyshaun Taylor, was at the birthday party on the east side of the city when he was hit in the chest by a bullet at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, CNN reported.

The adult who was supposed to be supervising the children was at a nearby store when the shots rang out and didn’t find out about the shooting until she returned, according to the report.

Taylor was treated by medics and police who responded to the scene, but couldn’t be saved.

Investigators believe the shot may have been fired by a group of teenagers who were playing with a gun near the apartment complex where the birthday party was happening, CNN reported.

No suspects have been identified.

A spokesperson for the school district Taylor attended told the news network “he was an exceptional student with a promising future.”
