Mohammed Barde, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, has been redeployed, according to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The IGP revealed this on Sunday night during an interview on Channels TV’s Peoples Townhall program .

Egbetokun claims that the Imo police commissioner should be replaced in order to preserve neutrality, not because he was found guilty of the accusations made against him.

Remember that the Labour Party (LP) had previously supported calls for the urgent redeployment of the CP and other officials who were purportedly engaged in the recent attack on Comrade Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in the state.

The IGP disclosed that more gunboats and boats will be deployed for Bayelsa, Kogi polls, adding that no VIP would be allowed to move around with police escorts on election day.

Egbetokun asserted that violators of the directive would be promptly arrested.

He also warned criminals to stay away from Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa elections, saying that it won’t be business as usual.

Egbetokun took the decision six days to the November 11, 2023 off-season polls in Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi states.

“I am aware that there have been allegations on social media against the Commissioner of Police in Imo State but for this election, we are changing the commissioner of police in Imo,” he said.
