The Special Advisor to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, issued a strong warning against the sale and distribution of fake drinks in the state of Lagos in reaction to the growing concern about these drinks finding their way into clubs and restaurants.

Expressing deep concern over the threat these fake drinks pose to public health and safety, Mr. Aregbe announced intensified efforts by his office to eliminate substandard products from circulation. “We call upon all clubs, restaurants, and public places where drinks are sold to exercise due diligence in ensuring they do not purchase or serve fake drinks to unsuspecting consumers,” he urged.

Collaborating with Mr. Ononiwu Francis Ezeribe, Director of Investigation & Enforcement at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the Lagos State Safety Commission, the Special Adviser assured the public of a comprehensive effort to eradicate fake drinks from the market. “We implore the cooperation of all stakeholders to create an environment where consumers can enjoy beverages without compromising their safety,” he emphasized.

Mr. Aregbe is also working closely with the Lagos Safety Commission, led by DG Mr. Lanre Mojola. Mr. Mojola praised the initiative, describing it as a laudable step towards Governor Sanwo-olu’s commitment to the safety of lives. He urged drinks manufacturers to play an active role in public enlightenment, guiding consumers on how to identify genuine products through proper labeling, packaging, and distribution channels.

To enforce these measures, the Special Adviser issued a strong warning that any entertainment venue or gathering found serving or selling fake drinks would face immediate closure, coupled with the suspension of their operating license. He emphasized that stringent measures would be implemented to ensure the well-being of Lagos residents and visitors.

The ministry, in collaboration with relevant agencies, is actively working towards eradicating fake drinks and ensuring full compliance with the directives. Mr. Aregbe concluded by extending New Year wishes to Lagosians, underlining the importance of collective responsibility in creating a safer and healthier Lagos.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, under the leadership of Mr. Idris Aregbe, remains committed to promoting and preserving Lagos State’s rich cultural heritage while prioritizing the safety of its residents and visitors.
