Polish police confirmed that five people were killed and around a dozen others injured after a shooting in the Main Market Square of Krakow on Saturday, 7 November 2026. Emergency services responded to the historic city-centre location, which is popular with residents and tourists.
According to the Małopolska Police, a man drove onto the square at around 15:00 local time and began firing at random people from his car.

Officers shot the perpetrator, who was then transported to hospital. Some reports indicated he was wearing military-style clothing and that a weapon was recovered.
Two police officers were among those injured.
An air ambulance was among the emergency vehicles that attended the scene.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the incident as tragic.
In a statement, he said he was being kept informed by the Minister of the Interior and that “the police are investigating the background and all the circumstances of the attack.”
Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or a confirmed motive.
Early accounts characterised the shooting as indiscriminate rather than targeted at any particular group or event.
The Main Market Square is one of Europe’s largest medieval squares and a central public space in Poland’s second-largest city.
The attack prompted residents and visitors to seek shelter in nearby buildings as emergency teams worked to secure the area.
Investigations into the perpetrator’s background and any possible connections remain ongoing, with police appealing for the public to avoid the location while operations continue.
The incident has drawn attention as a rare mass shooting in a country that generally experiences low levels of such gun violence.
