The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the Lagos State Police for their integrity in turning down a four-million-naira bribe during an investigation into drug peddling and possession of illegal ammunition.
In a recent operation led by SP Rilwan Kasumu and his team from the police tactical unit in Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command, Esther Newman Obiekezie, alias Candy, aged 42, was apprehended on February 6, 2024.

The arrest took place at her residence on No. 6, Mojirade Street, Ilogbo, Lagos, where she was reportedly selling a drug known as ICE. Authorities recovered a significant quantity of the illicit substance along with AK47 live ammunition from her possession.
During the investigation, two individuals, Akete Esther (female, aged 43) and Oke Okebalam (male, aged 49) of Ajamgbadi, Lagos, approached the police station in Ijanikin. They sought the release of Esther Newman Obiekezie and offered a bribe of four million naira. They pleaded with the police to cease interference in Esther’s illegal drug peddling activities.
In a display of unwavering commitment to upholding the law, the police officer in charge swiftly rejected the bribe, seized the cash as evidence, and proceeded to arrest the duo for further investigation and prosecution.
