Gigmile Technology, a service company providing bikes to riders among other services rendered, is under scrutiny following allegations of highhandedness and breach of contract.

The controversy stems from the company’s forceful retrieval of a bike from one of its riders, sparking outrage and raising questions about the company’s practices.

The incident revolves around Yolemi, a rider who took to social media to narrate his ordeal with Gigmile Technology. According to Yolemi, he was unlawfully laid off and had his bike confiscated by the company. His account sheds light on the contractual arrangements between riders and Gigmile Technology.

Yolemi signed a contract with the company on August 28, 2024, committing to ride the bike provided by Gigmile Technology and remit N4500 daily for its use. The contract spanned one year, one month, and one week, totaling approximately 57 weeks.

However, the situation took a contentious turn when Gigmile Technology allegedly seized Yolemi’s bike and accused him of defaulting on remittances.

Yolemi vehemently disputes these claims, asserting that he has diligently fulfilled his contractual obligations.

“As of May 7th, I’ve completed 8 months and made payments up to date,” he stated.

He challenges the company to provide evidence of any outstanding payments and questions the grounds for his alleged misconduct, which Gigmile Technology cited as justification for seizing the bike.

The rider’s account paints a picture of frustration and injustice as he recounts his interactions with the company. Despite reaching out to Gigmile Technology for support, Yolemi claims that his pleas were met with refusal. He describes a scenario where he was left stranded with his bike after ‘council people’ seized it on behalf of the company, only to be told that he must bear the responsibility of retrieving it.

“These are the same people when council people seized my bike and asked them to come and retrieve it. They said I would be responsible for retrieving the bike and left me and the bike there, taking my documents and keys and repeatedly asking if I had the money to retrieve the bike.

“I retrieved the bike for N25,000, took it home, and they kept asking me to bring it for servicing. I told them I’m here for the key and documents. Once you give me the key, we can proceed, you know…”

Yolemi’s ordeal culminated in the forceful seizure of his bike and instructions to collect a termination letter from Gigmile Technology. His video testimony captures the emotional toll of the ordeal and raises concerns about the company’s treatment of its riders.

“They forcefully took the bike from me yesterday and instructed me to come today for a termination letter,” he explained in the video.

A call to the company’s official line was not returned at the time of publishing this report.
