In an attempt to bolster food security and drive economic development, the Federal Executive Council has greenlit the Greener Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (GHAPP).

This ambitious programme, led by Origin Tech Group in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is set to transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, enhancing productivity and fostering sustainable growth.

Approved on 25th June 2024, GHAPP is a significant step towards realising the vision outlined in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Executive Order, which declared a state of emergency on food security.

The programme aims to cultivate 500,000 hectares of arable land, implement advanced agricultural technologies, and promote agro-industrialisation, with a strong focus on encouraging youth participation in agriculture.

GHAPP will establish state-of-the-art agricultural mechanisation service centres and hubs across 37 farming clusters nationwide.

These centres will feature cutting-edge machinery provided by Origin Tech Group’s subsidiary, Origin Automobile Works.

The programme also benefits from technical partnerships with South Korea, Taiwan, and Brazil, enhancing the production and supply of agricultural machinery and establishing enterprise centres throughout Nigeria.

A central aspect of GHAPP is the comprehensive training and support for youths in modern agricultural techniques and equipment use.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the Chief of Defence Staff and the National Security Adviser, will oversee this training.

Additionally, a digital platform for tractor hailing and recruitment will be developed in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications.

The programme prioritises modern infrastructure, including high-powered tractors, bulldozers, sprayers, drones, and large-scale silos. It will also set up equipment centres, data centres, and spare parts shops to ensure efficient management and maintenance.

Aiming for sustainable growth and development, GHAPP is designed to be replicable and scalable, extending its support to smaller farms and involving international partners like Campo Brazil for expertise and assistance.

GHAPP represents a significant leap forward in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector, addressing the shortcomings of previous initiatives.

By promoting advanced mechanisation and capacity building, the programme seeks to increase farmers’ wealth, reduce urban migration, and secure Nigeria’s food future.

For over 25 years, Origin Tech Group has been at the forefront of providing innovative solutions across various economic sectors, including food systems, automotive, civil engineering, and construction.
