President Bola Tinubu has signed into law a bill that will increase the salaries and allowances of judges in Nigeria by 300%.

The judicial office holders’ salaries and allowances bill, passed by the Senate in June, will now ensure that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) receives an annual income of ₦64 million.

The signing of the bill was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday, August 13, by Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters. Lado highlighted that this move underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce, particularly those in crucial roles within the judiciary.

“This extraordinary move underscores Mr President’s absolute prioritization of the welfare of Nigerian workers above all else, just as he did when he recently halted an ongoing Federal Executive Council meeting to assent to the new National Minimum Wage Bill of ₦70,000,” Lado stated.

He emphasized that by prioritizing the financial well-being of judicial officers, President Tinubu is not only reinforcing the integrity of the nation’s justice system but also setting a new standard for leadership that truly values the contributions of all Nigerian workers.

Lado further praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas for their “patriotic commitment” to enhancing the welfare of Nigerians. He added that the judiciary remains the hope of the common man, and with this new development, it is expected that justice will be accessible to all Nigerians, regardless of their status.
