Dr. Hassan Sadique, a prominent security expert, has urged the Nigerian military and other security agencies to review their strategies in the ongoing battle against insurgency and criminal activities.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, Sadique stressed the need for a comprehensive approach to address the nation’s security challenges.

Sadique emphasised that the review should extend beyond acquiring more military hardware to include enhanced intelligence gathering, non-kinetic strategies, and swift responses to threats. He also called for a stronger synergy between the military and other security agencies to ensure the success of operations.

“The military and especially the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) must review their strategies to effectively confront the myriad of security challenges in the country,” Sadique stated. He added that while the security agencies are doing their best, there is still room for improvement.

Furthermore, Sadique urged the Federal Government to form a committee of both retired and serving military personnel to develop a policy framework aimed at addressing the nation’s security issues. He also highlighted the importance of prioritising the welfare, training, and retraining of security personnel to enhance their performance and morale.

Echoing Sadique’s sentiments, another security expert, Dr. Abdullahi Jabbi, commended Nigerian security personnel for their sacrifices but noted that more needs to be done. Jabbi emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering and timely response to security threats, urging a non-kinetic approach in combating insurgency.

Both experts also called on the government to address the root causes of unrest, such as unemployment among the youth, and to take firm action against those financing terrorism.
