Peter Obi expressed his condolences to the victims of the Niger State oil tanker explosion that killed over 48 people and 50 cattle.

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]olitician and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic oil tanker explosion in Niger State, which claimed the lives of over 48 people.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday along the Lapai-Agaie road, near Dendo Community in the Agaie Local Government Area.

The explosion, which took place around 12:30 am, resulted from a collision between a petrol tanker and a truck carrying passengers and cattle.

Two other vehicles, including a crane truck and a pickup van, were also engulfed in the resulting inferno. The explosion led to the mass burial of 48 victims on Sunday, while over 50 cattle perished in the fire.

In a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi said he was “pained” by the loss of lives and livelihoods in the incident. He also referenced another tragic tanker explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, which had occurred just a day before, causing further devastation.

Obi extended his condolences to the affected families and thanked emergency responders for their efforts. He prayed for the souls of the departed and quick recovery for the injured.
