Elon Musk’s estranged daughter Vivian Wilson plans to leave the US, citing discomfort with Trump’s re-election and a challenging political climate.

[dropcap]V[/dropcap]ivian Wilson, the 20-year-old transgender daughter of tech mogul Elon Musk, has announced her intention to leave the United States following Donald Trump’s recent election win.

Wilson, who has had a public and strained relationship with her father, voiced her decision on Threads, expressing deep discomfort with the current political climate under Trump’s administration.

In her post, Wilson wrote, “I don’t see my future in the United States. I’ve thought this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me.

Even if he’s only in office for four years, even if anti-trans regulations don’t materialise, the people who voted for this aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.”

Wilson, originally named Xavier Musk, legally changed her name and gender in April 2022, adopting her mother’s maiden name.

The decision reflected a desire to sever ties with Musk, with Wilson previously stating, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”

Musk, who is known for his support of Trump and has 12 children from three relationships, has been outspoken about his complicated relationship with Wilson.

He has previously referred to his daughter as a “communist” with views that challenge his wealth and ideals. Musk alleged that he had been “tricked” into consenting to Wilson’s use of puberty blockers, claiming he didn’t fully understand the documents he signed during the COVID-19 pandemic and citing concerns for her wellbeing.

In a public statement, Musk condemned puberty blockers as “sterilisation drugs” and labelled gender dysphoria as “incredibly evil.” He claimed, “I lost my son… They call it ‘deadnaming’ because your son is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.”

Vivian, however, provided her own perspective on her father’s absence from her childhood. She stated that Musk often criticised her “femininity and queerness” and failed to understand her as an individual.

“He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he simply wasn’t there. I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness,” Wilson shared, describing her experience of being reduced to stereotypes that reflect Musk’s views on queer people and children.

This announcement comes as Vivian joins a growing number of Americans reconsidering their futures amidst shifting political dynamics, with Trump’s return to office raising new concerns for various communities across the country.
