The bank hosted an engaging seminar at its Lagos head office on Wednesday, 20th November 2024, themed “Share A Story, Stop A Scam,” aligning with the global theme for this year’s fraud awareness campaign.

International Fraud Awareness Week, observed globally every third week of November, highlights the growing threats of fraud and encourages proactive measures to mitigate its impact.

This year’s theme emphasises the importance of sharing real-life experiences to educate individuals and organisations about fraud prevention.

Wema Bank has consistently prioritised fraud awareness and prevention, empowering customers with the knowledge needed to identify and combat fraud.

Through its robust Anti-Fraud Campaign, the bank has not only spread awareness but also taken decisive action against fraudsters, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding customers’ financial interests.

The seminar featured insights from industry leaders and experts, including:

  • Mr Oguzi Moses A., Assistant Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
  • Rypson Ugwuzor, Manager, Cybersecurity and Intelligent Automation, KPMG
  • Akin Adesomoju (SAN), Founder, Akin Adesomoju & Co.
  • Mr Femi Akinola, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit, Nigerian Police Force
  • Dr Obadare Peter Adewale, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer, Digital Encode Limited

Wema Bank’s proactive measures include disconnecting seven FinTechs found guilty of fraud from its network earlier this year. The bank continues to strengthen its anti-fraud systems and equip customers with tools to identify emerging fraud tactics.

Customers and the general public are encouraged to follow @wemabank on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X for updates on fraud prevention strategies and bank initiatives.
