During a working visit to the Lagos Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Park (LHP) in Ketu-Ereyun, Epe, he revealed plans to increase food security from its current 18% to over 50%.

This ambitious project, led by Origin Tech Group, is poised to become Africa’s largest food logistics hub and the second-largest globally after the Rungis International Market in France.

Spanning 220 hectares, the facility aims to revolutionise Lagos’ food ecosystem by enhancing accessibility, stabilising market prices, and reducing post-harvest losses.

Governor Sanwo-Olu announced that the first phase of the Lagos Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Park is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2025. Highlighting its transformative impact, he stated:

“This hub represents a pivotal step toward achieving food sufficiency and affordability for Lagosians. By reducing wastage and optimising supply chains, we aim to stabilise food prices and mitigate economic disruptions.”

The Governor, accompanied by members of the State Executive Council, Commissioner Abisola Olusanya, and journalists, also disclosed plans to establish smaller market hubs in Ajah, Agege, Oregun, and Ikorodu.

These hubs will connect to the central facility, ensuring efficient food distribution across Lagos and neighbouring communities.

The Lagos Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Park will feature:

  • A 14,000-capacity abattoir on 1,000 hectares
  • Dry storage facilities spanning 11 football fields
  • A 250mm dual carriageway concrete road network for logistics
  • A jetty to facilitate waterway transportation

Prince S. J. Samuel, Executive Chairman of Origin Tech Group, praised the Governor’s visionary leadership, stating:

“Despite economic challenges, we are committed to delivering this world-class facility on schedule. Lagosians can expect a 50% reduction in food prices upon completion.”

The hub is expected to strengthen Lagos’ agricultural value chain, create thousands of jobs, and position the state as a leader in sustainable food systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. Governor Sanwo-Olu remarked:

“This initiative will transform Lagos’ food systems, stabilise prices, and ensure food sufficiency for Lagosians.”
