Speaker Mudashiru Obasa urges Nigerians to stay hopeful as Tinubu’s administration tackles challenges, citing God’s mercy and grace

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful, emphasising that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to overcoming the nation’s challenges.

Speaking at the Assembly’s 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Service themed The Voice of Mercy, Obasa acknowledged the economic difficulties faced by the country in the outgoing year but expressed confidence in the government’s efforts.

“Mr. President is busy doing everything possible to put smiles on our faces. Trust me, succour is coming. I urge us to keep the hope alive,” he said.

The event, held in the presence of officials from various arms of the Lagos State Government, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), traditional rulers, and guest preachers, focused on gratitude and faith in God’s enduring mercy.

Quoting from the Bible, Obasa noted that the nation’s successes and blessings are manifestations of divine mercy rather than human effort.

He urged citizens to embrace mercy and show kindness to one another, saying, “In times like these, we must recognise that our strength and renewal come from God’s mercy and grace.”

In his sermon, Most Rev. Isaac Ayo Olawuyi, Archbishop of the Methodist Church Nigeria (Lagos), reinforced the message of mercy, calling on Nigerians to embody God’s compassion.

“When the mercy of God is upon you, all protocols are broken. All things are possible by the mercies of God,” the Archbishop said, urging individuals to extend love and assistance to others.

The Archbishop commended Obasa for his collaborative leadership, which has strengthened governance in Lagos State, and praised President Tinubu for taking significant steps to address national challenges.

He also advocated for religious inclusivity in Lagos State’s leadership, suggesting that a Muslim governor should be considered in 2027 to reflect the spirit of tolerance.

“We have had Christians as governors for the past 12 years. It’s time to give our Muslim brothers a chance to govern us,” Olawuyi stated, expressing hope that the upcoming election would uphold fairness and effective governance.

The Thanksgiving Service highlighted the enduring faith of Nigerians and renewed calls for unity, tolerance, and collective progress under God’s mercy and grace.
