Support for journalists’ welfare

Chief Ibrahim Egungbohun urges Nigerians to uplift journalists, widows, and orphans, emphasising the importance of mutual care and welfare.

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]hief Ibrahim Egungbohun, the Chairman of IBD Impex Ltd, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the welfare of journalists and their families.

He praised the Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) for their compassionate efforts in aiding widows, orphans, and veteran journalists facing financial challenges.

Speaking during a meeting with NASRE executives at his Ilaro office, Chief Egungbohun encouraged Nigerians at home and abroad to maintain a spirit of mutual care.

The gathering, held in the final hours of 2024, highlighted the Chairman’s deep concern for the well-being of media professionals.

“I feel for our loving media people who are in need of our show of love. I implore fellow Nigerians, in any positive way possible, to rise to the occasion because we must uplift each other as our brother’s keepers,” Chief Egungbohun stated passionately.

He emphasised the crucial role of journalists as the fourth estate of the realm, pointing out that their welfare directly influences the strength of democracy and national development. “Journalists’ individual well-being and welfare should be our collective priority,” he added.

A devout Muslim, Chief Egungbohun underscored the importance of unity and care regardless of religion or social status.

“True happiness lies in ensuring those around us are happy,” he noted, urging Nigerians to focus on offering support during challenging times.

Highlighting his philosophy, he stated, “Doing uplift is not always about giving money. It is about being present for others in their trying times.”

He assured NASRE of his unwavering support, adding, “As you continue your good work, NASRE, always count on me for my widow’s mite.”

Chief Egungbohun’s heartfelt appeal serves as a call to action for all Nigerians to foster a culture of care, ensuring a brighter future for media practitioners and their families.
