[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old teacher, Stella Nwadigo, who was caught on video physically abusing a three-year-old pupil at Christ-Mitots School, Ikorodu.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, was captured in a two-minute video that went viral on social media on Wednesday.

The video shows the teacher subjecting the young boy to repeated slaps after he struggled to write the numbers 61 and 62. Her actions have been widely condemned by concerned citizens and authorities alike.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a post shared on his X account (@benHundeyin). “The teacher is currently in our custody, while investigation is ongoing,” he stated.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) also reacted swiftly to the disturbing footage. In a statement on its verified X handle (@LSdsva), the agency reassured the public that the teacher had been apprehended by the Owutu Police Family Support Unit.
“We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested. Institutions of learning should be safe, warm, and protective environments for all children in their care,” the agency noted.
The DSVA emphasised the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of every child in Lagos. It reiterated the zero-tolerance policy for abuse and called on residents to report any incidents of violence or mistreatment.
