His remains were found following a coordinated effort by security operatives, who also apprehended the suspected culprits.

Azuka, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1 under the Labour Party (LP), was abducted on Tuesday, 24th December 2024, while returning home via Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha.

The armed kidnappers executed the operation in less than five minutes.

Azuka’s abduction shocked the political community, particularly as he had recently reclaimed his mandate through a court ruling that overturned the victory of Hon. Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.

His disappearance raised concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Anambra State.

Following a security operation, authorities arrested those responsible for the crime. “We have arrested the culprits that kidnapped and killed him,” a security source confirmed.

“They were arrested late Wednesday night and led the security operatives to the location where they dumped the corpse.”

Azuka’s murder has sent shockwaves across Anambra State, especially within Onitsha, where he was a well-respected figure.

His death has been described as a huge loss to his family, the Obi of Onitsha, Dr Alfred Achebe, and the entire Onitsha North Constituency 1.

“It is sad and tragic. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” a source expressed.

Azuka’s assassination underscores the worsening security situation in Anambra State. His abduction took place in a high-traffic area of Onitsha, raising fresh concerns about law enforcement’s ability to curb violent crimes.

“Two nights ago, kidnappers had a field day along Awka Road in the centre of Onitsha, firing several gunshots during an attempted abduction,” a security operative disclosed.

The recent spate of kidnappings and violent crimes has heightened fears among residents and lawmakers.
