Ovie Omo-Agege expresses confidence in APC’s victory over PDP in Delta’s 2027 governorship race, emphasising unity and collective effort
[dropcap]S[/dropcap]enator Ovie Omo-Agege, the former Deputy Senate President and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Delta State in the 2023 election, has expressed strong confidence that the APC will unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state’s 2027 governorship race.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area, on Tuesday, Omo-Agege described 2027 as “our date with destiny,” attributing his optimism to the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s collective resolve to win Delta.
Reflecting on the narrow loss the APC suffered in the 2023 Delta State governorship race, Omo-Agege reassured supporters that the party had learned from past mistakes and was now more determined than ever to secure victory. “We came so close in 2023 but fell short by a whisker.
However, we’ve learnt from our mistakes and are now more determined than ever to win Delta State for the APC,” Omo-Agege stated.
He called for inclusive stakeholder engagement, urging both old and new members of the party to put aside their differences and unite for the common goal of defeating the PDP.
“2027 demands unity. We must put aside divisions between old and new members and work together towards a common goal,” he said.
Omo-Agege also took time to address the post-election grievances from 2023, particularly the controversy surrounding the results in Warri North.
He rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of a 4,000-vote win for the APC and 10,000 for the PDP in the region, alleging that the PDP engaged in systemic rigging.
“Our votes were organic; theirs were products of writing,” he claimed, accusing the ruling party of manipulating the electoral process.
Defending President Tinubu’s economic policies, Omo-Agege highlighted key reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates.
While acknowledging the initial hardships these measures caused, he framed them as necessary for the country’s and Delta State’s long-term development.
“Although increased fuel, food, and forex prices cause pain, President Tinubu’s wise decision-making will yield a better future,” Omo-Agege asserted.
He also pointed out that the federal government’s redistribution of resources is benefitting states, including Delta.
“Delta State now receives more funds, as President Tinubu channels savings to states beyond Abuja,” he said, underlining the transformative potential of these financial adjustments.
While expressing confidence in the party’s future prospects, Omo-Agege admitted that APC faced internal unity challenges, including the failure to properly integrate new members.
“I should have fostered a stronger bond between old and new members. That error had significant consequences,” he confessed. He urged members of the PDP to defect to the APC, calling the ruling party a “sinking ship” on the brink of collapse.
Omo-Agege also addressed criticisms from within his own party, particularly from APC members who boycotted the 2023 election due to grievances.
He condemned this as “self-sabotage,” urging members to engage in the electoral process. “Why stay home? Vote first, defend your votes, and then resolve issues. By staying away, we all lose,” he stated.
