According to local security sources, the insurgents launched their assault around 1:00 am. However, a fierce gun battle ensued, and the attackers were overpowered and forced to retreat.

ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that while the insurgents attempted to infiltrate the police station, they were repelled by the security forces.

“No casualty was recorded on our side,” Daso said, adding that although the attackers targeted a police Armoured Personnel Carrier, they only damaged its tyres without destroying the vehicle.

The spokesperson further confirmed that while no bodies had been recovered, it was clear that the insurgents suffered casualties during the exchange.

The police force has assured residents that they are prepared to prevent future attacks, emphasizing that Malari, which had previously lacked civil authority, has seen improved security following the deployment of a specialized police team.

Residents of the area, however, voiced concerns that the insurgents might regroup and target civilians. “We are scared they may return.

This attack follows a recent incident in which Boko Haram militants raided the Nganzai Police Division in Borno, resulting in the deaths of two police officers.
