One of the suspects, identified as Mbanaso, is facing up to two years in prison after he was arrested for selling cocaine to a local tourist.

The second individual, known only as George, has been detained for both possession of cocaine and dangerous driving.

Mbanaso’s arrest followed a confession by a Swiss tourist, identified as Mr. Sascha, who admitted to purchasing cocaine from him.

According to reports from Khasod, a Thai news outlet, Sascha voluntarily entered a drug rehabilitation program and provided information about his supplier, implicating Mbanaso.

The tourist claimed to have made multiple cocaine purchases from the Nigerian via WhatsApp, with payments completed through bank transfers.

On March 10, after gathering enough evidence, Thai police conducted a sting operation, arresting Mbanaso near the Kamala Police Station at around 9:40 p.m. He was found in possession of 0.82 grams of cocaine.

Mbanaso, aged 32, now faces charges under Thailand’s narcotics laws, specifically for distributing Category 2 drugs. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to two years in prison, fined up to 40,000 baht, or face both penalties.

His arrest has raised concerns about the growing drug trade in the region, particularly involving foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, George’s arrest unfolded under dramatic circumstances. On March 11, police in Phuket received reports of a car, a Mazda, driving erratically at high speeds and spinning in circles at traffic lights.

Officers pursued the vehicle, which sped along a major bypass road, evading initial attempts to stop it. The suspects in the car appeared intoxicated and were uncooperative with the authorities, struggling to communicate in English even when police used translation apps.

After a brief chase, the vehicle was eventually apprehended, and George was identified as one of the individuals in the car.

It was revealed that he had overstayed his visa in Thailand, and he had a previous arrest warrant for possession of cocaine, dating back to August 2023.

The authorities also discovered that George was not only involved in dangerous driving but was also implicated in the illegal possession of narcotics.

These arrests highlight a growing issue with narcotics in Thailand, particularly concerning foreign nationals engaging in illegal activities.
