Governor Siminalayi Fubara speaks out against the emergency declaration in Rivers State, urging peace, unity, and commitment to democracy

 

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n a heartfelt press statement, suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, addressed the people of the state, urging them to remain calm and united during the current political crisis following the declaration of a state of emergency.

Fubara, who has served as Governor of Rivers State with a focus on constitutional duty and good governance, assured citizens that his actions in office have always been motivated by a commitment to the well-being of the state and its people.

He emphasised that despite the ongoing political impasse, his administration remained focused on prioritising the protection of lives, the security of property, and the continuous development of the state.

“I have always acted in line with my constitutional oath of office,” Fubara stated, “and all decisions have been made with the best interests of Rivers people at heart.”

The Governor expressed regret over the persistent frustrations he encountered from members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which hindered efforts towards resolving the political stalemate.

Despite these challenges, Fubara reiterated that his administration remained dedicated to advancing peace, unity, and progress in the state.

“Even in the face of political disagreements, we continued to ensure good governance. Salaries were paid, development projects were underway, and Rivers State remained peaceful and secure,” Fubara said, defending his administration’s record.

He also pointed to efforts made after President Bola Tinubu’s intervention to broker peace in the state, noting that his government swiftly implemented the agreed terms, including welcoming back commissioners who had previously resigned.

Additionally, Governor Fubara assured that the state adhered to the Supreme Court’s judgment, striving to return the state to normalcy and stability.

At a critical juncture, Fubara called on Rivers residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding. He emphasised the need to engage with relevant institutions to ensure that the state’s democracy remains intact and continues to flourish.

Fubara expressed his unwavering belief in the resilience of the Rivers people and their capacity to navigate through the current challenges with wisdom and patience.

“Rivers people have always shown remarkable resilience,” he said. “We will face this situation together with steadfast faith in the democratic process.”

Fubara concluded by offering his prayers for Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole, calling for peace, unity, and a strong commitment to upholding democracy.
