Abuja Investments Company marks 30 years and celebrates its first female GMD, Ambassador Maureen Tamuno, for a year of bold reforms
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL) marked a major milestone last Thursday, celebrating 30 years of pioneering investment initiatives in the Federal Capital Territory.

The event, held at the company’s headquarters in Abuja, also honoured its first-ever female Group Managing Director, Ambassador Maureen Tamuno, who recently marked her first year in office.
The double celebration spotlighted both the company’s legacy of smart, strategic investments and the transformative leadership of Amb. Tamuno.
Her appointment as GMD, staff said, reflects AICL’s growing commitment to diversity and inclusion in leadership, a move that continues to inspire a new generation of women in finance and business.
Speaking at the event, AICL’s Chief Investment Officer, Abiodun Akanbi, praised Tamuno for spearheading significant structural reforms and introducing a new era of operational excellence.
Key among her achievements is the long-awaited implementation of the AICL Group structure after 12 years of delay, a change that has enhanced efficiency and encouraged stronger collaboration across the organisation.
Akanbi also highlighted other milestones under her leadership, including:
- Dividend payments by subsidiaries – a clear signal of the company’s financial health.
Staff welfare improvements, with the first salary increase in a decade.
Market developments, such as the commissioning of Utako Farmers Market, Kugbo International Market, Guzape Mall, and the redevelopment of Wuse Market.
Landmark site visits, including being the first CEO to visit the designated Abuja Film Village land in Kuje.
Revenue remittance to stakeholders– the first in 30 years.
Legal reforms, with the discontinuation of ongoing lawsuits and no new legal cases in six months.
“The achievements in just one year show the level of commitment and vision being applied at the highest level.
Under her leadership, AICL is clearly positioning itself as a key player in infrastructure, technology, and agricultural development in the FCT and beyond,” Akanbi said.
The President of the AICL Staff Union, Isah Bawa, who also heads the company’s marketing department, echoed these sentiments.
He lauded Ambassador Tamuno’s inclusive leadership style and innovative marketing strategies, noting that they have significantly elevated AICL’s profile and workplace culture.
In her address, Ambassador Tamuno thanked the staff, management, and stakeholders for their support and warm reception.
She acknowledged the crucial backing of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and pledged to continue driving the company’s growth with a focus on sustainability and innovation.
“It’s been 30 years of transformation, diversification, and wealth creation. We are building a sustainable brand that stands for progress, prosperity, and strong partnerships.
We are ready to continue working with public and private partners to secure and grow wealth for future generations,” she stated.
The event concluded with award presentations to outstanding employees and long-service recipients, symbolising AICL’s culture of excellence and appreciation.
