Civic Alliance for Security Accountability (CASA) has defended IGP Kayode Egbetokun against smear campaigns, calling them attacks on national security and President Tinubu.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun has received strong backing from the Civic Alliance for Security Accountability (CASA), which condemned the ongoing media attacks on his leadership.

In a statement issued on Friday, 30 May 2025, CASA President Charles Egbunike labelled the attacks as a coordinated effort to tarnish not only Egbetokun’s reputation but also the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“These campaigns are not only malicious but deliberately designed to create instability,” said Egbunike. “Those behind them are not just attacking the IGP; they are using him as a tool to hit at the President.”

Egbunike explained that the motive stems from the Inspector General’s reform efforts. These include enforcing retirement policies and cleaning up unprofessional practices within the Nigeria Police Force. The group alleges that disgruntled former beneficiaries of the previous order, in collaboration with rogue online platforms, are now sponsoring falsehoods against the IGP.

Egbunike hinted at an exposé to unmask a retired senior police officer and others allegedly funding the attacks.

“This is not just an attack on one man; it is an attempt to undermine national security. We will not let that happen,” he said.

Joining the defence, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Idris Dauda Dabban, described IGP Egbetokun as a “selfless and forward-thinking officer” committed to restoring integrity within the Force.

“He is someone who listens, interacts well with people and genuinely cares about getting the job done,” said Dabban, who served closely with the IGP during their early careers.

He described Egbetokun as “incorruptible, hardworking, and passionate about service,” recounting their shared postings and barrack life in Lagos after their graduation from the Police Academy.

Secretary-General of CASA, Emamode Peters, also praised Egbetokun’s leadership. He noted that the IGP leads by example and holds a high standard of professionalism.

“He works more than 14 hours daily and rarely sleeps before 4 a.m. He demands results, and laziness has no place under him,” Peters remarked.

CASA urged Nigerians to ignore what it called “paid propaganda” and continue supporting the Inspector General’s efforts to reform the Force and maintain national stability.
