The Super Falcons vs Cameroon friendly will now take place on Tuesday, June 3, in Abeokuta, after CAF rejected a proposed rescheduling to Monday

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Super Falcons vs Cameroon international friendly will now go ahead as originally planned on Tuesday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, following a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to reject a proposed shift to Monday.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and their Cameroonian counterparts, FECAFOOT, had initially sought to bring the match forward by a day after travel delays disrupted plans for a two-legged encounter. However, CAF did not approve the revised schedule, prompting a reversion to the original fixture date.

Confirming the update on Sunday, the Super Falcons stated via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The first leg of the tie, which was initially billed for Saturday, May 31, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, was cancelled due to the late arrival of the Cameroonian delegation.

The team only reached Ikenne late Friday evening, leaving no room for the necessary pre-match protocols or recovery time.

As a result, both sides agreed to proceed with a single fixture. In a bid to adapt, organisers announced a new date of Monday, June 2, but the move was blocked by CAF.

CAF’s insistence on maintaining the original date means fans will now get to see the Super Falcons in action on Tuesday, in what will be their first match since a narrow 1–0 defeat to France in November last year.

The match also forms part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where the Falcons are expected to contend for their tenth continental crown.

Although Cameroon failed to qualify for this year’s WAFCON, they remain a familiar adversary. Nigeria enjoys a dominant record, having kept clean sheets in their last six encounters, with Cameroon’s last win dating back to 2012.

The Cameroonian Lionesses are currently camped in Ijebu Ode, where they are undergoing final training sessions ahead of the clash in nearby Abeokuta.
