Semenyo FA Cup goal seals Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley in a dramatic final

Antoine Semenyo delivered a breathtaking winner as Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The Ghana international produced the decisive moment in the 72nd minute with an audacious back-heel finish from close range after connecting brilliantly with a cross from Erling Haaland.

The Semenyo FA Cup goal secured Manchester City’s eighth FA Cup title and handed manager Pep Guardiola a 20th trophy during his decade-long reign at the club.

In a tense and largely scrappy final, Semenyo’s flash of brilliance separated the two sides and instantly entered the conversation among the competition’s most memorable final goals.

The 26-year-old winger, who joined City from Bournemouth during the January transfer window, capped an impressive individual performance with the powerful moment that ultimately settled the contest.

City dominated possession for long stretches of the opening half but struggled to break down Chelsea’s disciplined defensive structure.

Haaland went close after forcing an error near the Chelsea penalty area, while goalkeeper Robert Sanchez denied the Norwegian striker with a sharp near-post save shortly before half-time.

Chelsea, managed by interim coach Calum McFarlane, relied heavily on counter-attacks and nearly earned a penalty before the interval when Joao Pedro went down under pressure from Abdukodir Khusanov inside the box.

The Semenyo FA Cup goal arrived after a stronger spell from City in the second half. Haaland drove into the Chelsea area from the right before cutting the ball back towards Semenyo, who improvised brilliantly with a deft back-flick into the far corner.

The stunning strike sparked wild celebrations among City supporters and ensured Guardiola avoided a third consecutive FA Cup final defeat after previous losses against Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

For Chelsea, the defeat deepened frustration during another difficult campaign. The London club remains outside the Premier League’s top four and faces an uncertain rebuild amid growing supporter unrest.

Fans protested against Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, before kick-off, while chants demanding change echoed around Wembley throughout the contest.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s attention now turns back to the Premier League title race, with Guardiola’s side still chasing leaders Arsenal despite a narrow margin for error.

Regardless of the league outcome, Semenyo’s sensational winner ensured City added another major trophy to an already glittering era under Guardiola.
