News of his sudden death has left both the Nigerian diaspora and the entertainment industry in shock.

Although official details are yet to be confirmed, close associates have taken to social media to express their sorrow and share tributes.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, but reports suggest it happened shortly after a short illness.

Kayode Peters was a celebrated figure in Nigerian entertainment, known for his vibrant performances and creative versatility.

He began his career on stage as a member of the renowned Theatre 15 troupe at the University of Lagos, where his passion for performance was first nurtured.

His breakthrough came when he appeared in the widely watched television sitcom “Papa Ajasco and Company.” The role catapulted him to national fame, establishing him as a rising star and a household name.

In 2018, he produced Excuse My African, his debut feature film shot in New York.

The movie showcased not only his acting prowess but also his skills as a producer with a global vision. This marked a new chapter in his career and demonstrated his commitment to telling diverse African stories.

Over the years, Peters remained active in film and television. Among his recent projects were “Meet My Girlfriends,” “Sisi Eko,” and “Crazy Grannies,” all released in 2021. Each role revealed a different layer of his range and deepened his connection with audiences at home and abroad.

Born in Ibadan on 25 September 1975, Kayode Tunde Peters was a proud Yoruba man and a practising Christian. He earned a degree in English Language from the University of Lagos, a foundation that served his storytelling ambitions well.

Although his parents’ identities were kept private, it is known that he valued family deeply.

Peters’ influence was far-reaching, touching not only his peers in Nollywood but also young creatives in the diaspora who saw him as a bridge between Nigerian culture and the wider world.

“Kayode was a light; warm, witty, and wise. His death is a huge loss to the industry and to all of us who called him a friend,” a  colleague told Freelanews.

As tributes continue to pour in, the Nigerian community in Canada has begun honouring his legacy with memorial posts and messages of condolence.

For many, his life was not only about the stage and screen but also about the joy and authenticity he brought to every project and every person he met.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made public.

Kayode Peters leaves behind a rich legacy of performances, productions, and public affection.
