Kano palace eviction court case pits evicted officials against Emir Sanusi II and others after alleged illegal removal, house destruction and harassment
A Kano palace eviction court case has been filed against Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and 12 others by a group of evicted officials and their families over alleged illegal eviction and destruction of property.

The plaintiffs, nine traditional titleholders, including Usman Dako (Galadiman Sallama) and Auwalu Maikudi (Sarkin Lema), submitted their complaint to the High Court of Justice in Bichi.
The case, numbered K/M1607/2025, is being heard by Justice Musa Ahmad.
The action comes after the applicants were forcefully evicted from palace quarters amid a growing emirship crisis that began in May 2024.
Tensions reportedly flared last week when loyalists of deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero were asked to vacate, with some homes allegedly vandalised.
“My grandfather died in 1949 and my father in 1995. I was born in this palace,” said Usman Dako. “Don’t I deserve all the privileges and rights in the palace?” Dako claimed that suspected thugs destroyed his home and harassed his family.
According to Dako, “Several servants had shown disloyalty to past emirs, but none were evicted. The house destroyed was given to my father by the late Ado Bayero.”
The court has issued an order directing all involved parties to maintain the status quo ante until a final judgement is reached.
It also approved substituted service of court documents via courier to the Inspector General of Police and other Abuja-based respondents.

This case adds to the wave of legal actions sparked by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s reinstatement of Sanusi as the sole Emir of Kano, following the dissolution of five emirates.
