Jigawa boat mishap has claimed four lives, with five passengers still missing after a tragic accident on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Zangon Maje, Taura LGA.

According to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the boat was ferrying 17 passengers, mostly girls aged 10 to 13, from Digawa Village to Zangon Maje when it capsized mid-journey.
Seven survivors were rescued, while four bodies have been recovered. Five remain unaccounted for.
The Jigawa boat mishap highlights the vulnerabilities of rural water transport and the urgent need for improved safety protocols.
NSCDC spokesperson Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud confirmed that rescue efforts involving local divers and volunteers began immediately and are ongoing.
The cause of the mishap remains unknown, pending investigation.
NSCDC Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga expressed heartfelt sympathy to affected families and assured the public of enhanced safety measures across the state’s waterways.
