EFCC arrests Yahoo Boys in Lagos; court convicts four fraudsters in dramatic sting operation with tough sentences and forfeitures

EFCC arrests Yahoo Boys in a sting operation that shook Abeokuta, leading to the conviction of four internet fraudsters at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The convicts Bisiriyu Roqeeb Abiodun, Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, Akinwale Isaac, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo were among 93 suspects nabbed by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice D.I. Dipeolu found the men guilty of impersonation and fraud on Friday, August 15, 2025, after they each pleaded guilty.

Court documents revealed they posed as fictitious women and professionals to trick unsuspecting victims.

  • Abiodun posed as “Sharon,” an American woman, to swindle a victim in Tennessee.
  • Olatunji impersonated “Camila” via a fake Gmail account.
  • Isaac used “Monica” and “Daisy” on WhatsApp to lure victims.
  • Oshundairo posed as a tax expert to dupe his targets.

The EFCC presented powerful evidence, including incriminating emails, fraudulent accounts, and bank drafts of restitution.

Justice Dipeolu ordered fines, community service, and forfeitures of luxury items like an iPhone 16 Pro Max and a 2017 Toyota Camry.

Olatunji received one month in jail with a ₦500,000 fine option, while Oshundairo was sentenced to 30 days of community service.

The ruling reflects a strong warning that cybercrime will not go unpunished. The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to tackling internet fraud, stressing that “Yahoo Boys” are no longer untouchable.
